I Am A Child of the 60’s

I was, and still am, a died-in-the-wool peace loving, tree hugging, hippie.

I still wear patchouli oil and burn Nag Champa incense.

I still wear clogs

I love big bold necklaces ala love beads and big dangly earrings.

I am thrilled that my 20-something daughter is wearing flowy blouses with lace and embroidery

If I have to wear a skirt, it’s to my ankles

I know the words to almost every Beatles song

I saw in concert:
The Beatles
The Lovin’ Spoonful
Donovan
Jim Morrison & The Doors
Jefferson Airplane
Paul Revere & the Raiders
Credence Clearwater Revival
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
Joan Baez
Bob Dylan
Rod Stewart
Judy Collins

I’ve marched on the Pentagon and the UN.

I heard Allen Ginsberg recite Howl.

I went to Kent State University and boycotted the administration. I walked many times where students were shot 9 months after my graduation.

I went on vacation to California, spent time on Haight-Ashbury, went to LA, and didn’t come home for a long time.

I didn’t trust anyone over 30 and firmly believed that if you weren’t a part of the solution, you were part of the problem.

I ironed my long, long hair to make it straight.

I had albums by people like The Holy Modal Rounders, Buffy Sainte Marie, and Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention.

I went to love-ins, hitch-hiked and hopped on freight trains.

I did some things that were illegal, but a lot of fun!

I look back on this time and realize it was probably one of the best times of my life. It formed me; made me who I am today. I’d like to think those were good times and that I became a good person.

Peace, Man!

Linda, I just loved reading this! My parents were 50's kids, so I don't get to hear too much about the 60's. Very cool stuff!
