Wicked!

Yesterday, Gary, Karen and I went to see Wicked with my best friend Karen & her husband! We saw it in Pittsburgh as part of the Broadway Series. What a great day! I haven’t been to a really good production in so long! And this was certainly spectacular! I can’t even put into words how wonderful it is!

I read the
book so I had background information that helped me with some of the action. But it really isn’t that necessary to read it to thoroughly enjoy the play. First, they tweaked it quite a bit for the stage and also, you can get most of it anyway.

At the end of the first act, when she sings the song
Defying Gravity, I had to fight not to burst into tears. It was one of those emotional experience that sort of punches you in the solar plexus and then just keep going! It was something I just can’t describe.

And surprisingly, the most poignant love song, For Good was not between the main love interests in the show, but between the main characters, Elphaba & Glinda.

Of course the day was much so much better by the good company and the good food at the end. We went to
Max’s Allegheny Tavern after the show for some good food. And good food it was. Good German comfort food. I had Kase Spaetzle, Potato Pancake with sour cream, pumpernickel rolls with some kind of pickled spread (the German version of dipping your bread in olive oil!) and a real apple dumpling (well, there were actually 2 on the plate) with ice cream. And a couple Yingling’s of course. When in Pennsylvania…

So my next mission is to get tix for Spamalot, which will be at the same theatre in September!
